Carbon Footprint Culprits Include People As Well As Companies

January 24th, 2012

If someone were to look up the definition of a carbon footprint on the internet, they would find a lot of equations, big words, and scientific names of many different types of toxins, poisons, gases and other elements that are bad.  The dictionary or encyclopedia will give a very lengthy explanation as well.  To the average person who is not a scientist, this can be very difficult to understand and decipher.  However, the truth is that a carbon footprint is just what a person will leave behind that isn’t environmentally friendly.

Of course, everyone knows that big industrial companies produce toxins and emissions that are harmful to the ecology and environment.  These are known as greenhouse gases and suspected to be causing the entire planet to slowly warm more rapidly than it should be.  Laws and bills are put into effect to try to help limit the carbon foot print that these companies leave behind.

While it is much easier to point the finger at these large companies, factories and corporations because they are mass producers of products and pollution, the honest truth is that they are not the only contributors to the environmental problems that the world is facing.

Each  individual person on the planet has their own carbon footprint that they leave behind.  Whether it is through driving a vehicle, using things that are disposable and not biodegradable, or engaging in other activities that leave some sort of harmful thing behind, they are still contributing to the problem.

Companies that build in areas where the ecology is disrupted such as forests and preserves are also adding to the problem by breaking down the food chain and forcing some species of plant and animal life into non-existence. Today, green energy and carbon credits offer everyone the opportunity to utilize power while offsetting or reducing their negative impact on the Earth.

Carbon Credits’ Price Inspires the Release of Fewer Greenhouse Gases

January 24th, 2012

A great way to inspire companies to emit fewer gases is through the distribution of carbon credits.  Price can then be attached to the certificates that aren’t used by one company who has come up with ways to produce less greenhouse emissions and then sold to companies that haven’t quite captured the greener technological processes yet.  This innovative approach of carbon emission credits is being used by the entire world to prevent the various toxins to escape into the atmosphere and even change the climate.  There are upwards of one hundred and sixty-five countries that now involve themselves in the process of earning and trading carbon credits.  Price being attached to them then allows them to be effectively traded which again provides an incentive to try to emit less to have more certificates left at the end of the cycle.

Sometimes companies aren’t that open to new technologies because they are often costly and time consuming.  By coming up with a program that rewards companies for utilizing these new processes and fuels, the program initiates a conversation about the use of carbon credits.  Price is relevant in that a company that comes up with new ways to emit less can benefit from selling their excess certificates to a company that might need them because they are in danger of producing more emissions than they have certificates to allow them to produce.

As time goes by and the need for certificates reduces as alternative fuels are being used, it is probable that so will the certificates given to the various companies in the form of carbon credits.  Price will still and always remain on the forefront because there will always be companies that exceed what they are allowed and want to become carbon neutral.

The Carbon Credit Helps Decrease Impact of Greenhouse Gases

January 24th, 2012

The  carbon credit was created to help offset the emissions created by businesses around the world.  International trade of carbon credit certificates, representing approximately one metric ton each, has become a common business practice for many companies that desire to reduce their carbon footprint.

With the declaration by the IPCC that global warming is a fact, many environmental groups began to push heavily for the world governments and businesses to work toward reducing dangerous greenhouse gases.  These gases are cited as being a major contributor to the yearly increase in temperature over the surface of the earth.  In response, the Kyoto Protocol was signed by many countries.  In this document, they agree to limit the overall emissions by their respective countries.  In each country, individual companies were given a cap on their emission allowances.  Since some industries have a more difficult time meeting such goals, a system of carbon credit certificates was created to “buy” them more time to conform to the cap.  Companies that are able to operate within their limits, with some left over, can turn around and sell their remaining allotment to other businesses that are as yet unable to operate under their given amounts.  This enables the businesses that are environmentally friendly to profit from the situation, while giving other companies the ability to continue to work toward decreasing their impact on the health of the planet.

Carbon credit has been developed to reward companies for their efforts in reducing emissions and to help others in their pursuit of these goals.  When businesses purchase these certificates, in effect trading emissions, it sends a message to consumers and potential employees that they are serious about working toward a better tomorrow.

Choosing the Most Affordable Electric Supplier for a Corporation

January 24th, 2012

After reliabilty, what is the best way for consumers to comparison shop when looking at different electric suppliers?  Corporate listings are available to them through the utility commission that governs their particular state, but there are some questions that they need to think about asking before they get started on their quest to find affordable power.

The first question they need to ask is about electricity restructuring: whether or not their state has participated in the deregulation of power which gives them the option to choose from different electric suppliers.  Corporate providers will be plentiful if their state is in fact free of regulated power.

Now that they have found that their state offers the ability to choose between providers, they need to comparison shop between the available electric suppliers.  Corporate policy will differ from company to company, so they may find that they will not list their rates freely on a website.  For exact details of their business electricity supplier’s actual rates, the consumer may have to call the customer service department.

When they contact them and are given a rate quote, the consumer need to also ask if that rate includes all charges that will be billed to them.  Some companies may try to leave out the overhead charges when quoting a rate so that their rates will look like a better deal than the other electric suppliers.  Corporate strategy may very well be to not disclose this fact unless they are asked the right questions.

It is also important to know if this rate that was quoted to them was based on a fixed rate or a variable one.  The difference is important because the fixed quote will remain the same for a period of time while the variable will fluctuate.  They also want to ask how long this quote will be in effect, which is an especially pertinent question if the consumer isn’t planning on changing electricity providers right away.

The Right Commercial Electric Service Rates Make Companies More Competitive

January 24th, 2012

Reliable, affordable commercial electric service is one of the many things to consider when starting or running a business.  A consumer always want to make sure that they have uninterrupted service with a company that is dedicated to providing it to them at all times.  Another important consideration is choosing the right business electricity prices and rates to suit the company’s needs.

Of course, before they begin their search for a reputable and dependable commercial electric service provider, they need to find out if they have the option of choice or not.  Some states are regulated and they will have one provider that is designated to their businesses address.  Some states are deregulated and the consumer will have the option of choosing between many different providers to supply their commercial electric service.  They can find this out by contacting the regulatory body in their state that oversees the different utilities.

Once the customer has found that they have the option to choose, then they can begin to comparison shop between the different providers of commercial electric service.  While doing this, they want to ask about the various rates and what they do and do not include.  This is important because by asking they may find that there are other fees that are not included in the quoted rate.

They also want to inquire about the different business electricity rates and packages that may be available to them as a business, such as fixed, variable or mixed rates.  This is important because some will fluctuate more than others, and depending on their usage and the type of business that they are going to operate, choosing the right package could end up saving them a lot of money in the long run.

Is Your Business’ Electric Service Bill Too High?

January 24th, 2012

It is possible to save money while running a business.  Electric service is definitely one of those areas where management could concentrate on those savings.  If the company is in a deregulated energy market, then they can comparison shop between providers and choose the best package and rates that are available among the many providers.  However, there are still other things that can be done besides this effort to pay less for their power while running a business.  Electric service is a great place to begin practicing going green by using less.

Commercial energy costs can be lowered by selecting the right plan as well as by using less. Just by taking a walk through the offices or factory and thinking outside of the box one can begin to see energy conservation ideas within their business.  Electric service is one of those things that simply cannot be done without, but many companies can make do with less of it if they are savvy enough to know exactly where to look.

Find areas that are well lit with natural light and then position desks and work areas near them in an effort to use less lighting.  Consider installing skylights in the office or company to take advantage of the natural light of day coming through.  If an area isn’t occupied, switch the lighting off or install timers that will automatically turn them off with a motion detector.

There are other things that can be done to save energy and money for any business. Electric service customer representatives can offer valuable information about money saving equipment and machinery such as fax machines, computers and copiers.  After all is said and done, the company will have a power bill that is within or under budget, and this always helps the bottom line.

Not All Residential Utilities Service Contracts Are Created Equal

January 18th, 2012

Obtaining, reading, and understanding the residential utilities service contract is a vital part of any agreement between a utility company and an applicant. While most companies provide similar contracts, the contract in a specific region will vary depending on the thoroughness of the provider as well as local regulations.

What are some of the rights and responsibilities listed within the residential utilities service contract?

a. Both parties are addressed as such. The company is named and the consumer or applicant is named.

b. The residential utilities service company addresses if a deposit is required, and how the deposit is saved and utilized at a later date. Often the last due amount will be deducted from the deposit with any remaining being directly dispersed back to the consumer, or a bill sent to the consumer at the last known address.

c. Since personal information is collected, the utility company is required by law to inform the consumer of what information is gathered and how the information is utilized by the company.

d. Collection efforts may be necessary, and the residential utilities service contract states which party is responsible for the payment of collection efforts.

e. Emergency contact information may be included in the contract for both parties.

f. Agreements are added to abide by all binding laws by both parties.

The home residential utility service contract protects both the consumer and the utility company by declaring in writing the rights and responsibilities of all parties involved. If the agreement changes, the utility provider is required to provide the changes to the applicant or user.

Residential Power Company Seeks Green Ways to Cut Costs

January 18th, 2012

Residential power company service is an essential and integral part of every community.  Because there isn’t as much voltage required in energizing a home and the consumption isn’t going to be that great of a number, it is easy to understand that the service provided by the residential power company will be at a higher rate than electricity for industrial or commercial businesses.  A business also has the advantage of knowing what their various different types of machinery and equipment will consume and how often per day they will be used, which allows them to offer a bandwidth or usage pattern that will be needed to the electric utility.  This helps them be able to produce more when it is necessary and send less when it isn’t, so this helps in keeping industrial costs down.

However, residential power company service has the benefit of being in an area where all of the necessary equipment to install electricity already exists.  Through the use of computers and smart meters, these areas can be monitored and regulated to already know what the average consumption is in the area.  This helps to advise the customer on what to expect as far as charges per month and helps to keep power affordable.  These computers also help to warn a consumer that their consumption has risen sharply which can sometimes indicate a short or some other sort of electrical problem. They are also invaluable in consumers with their energy conservation goals.

Residential power company service may also include being part of a co-operative within the community.  This is a great way to buy electricity in blocks for the community so that the members can save and freeze rates.  A consumer would need to find out if their neighborhood participates in this service and if the electric utility offers it as well. In addition to green energy programs and saving energy,  different rates and plans may better fit one’s usage patterns and reduce costs.

Residential Energy Providers Are Good Citizens, Too

January 18th, 2012

A residential energy provider wants to be more than just a power utility.  They want to be good citizens of the communities that they serve, and they do many things in the interest of the customer as proof of this.  It only makes sense for them to look out for the customers that they serve because the consumer is their future and without them, they have no one to serve.

The Department of Energy, or DOE, offers many programs to a residential energy provider to become involved in so that they may begin to make a huge difference in the areas that they serve.  Whether they are handing out free and more efficient light bulbs or performing weatherization under the Weatherization Assistance Program, a residential energy provider is working hard to provide their customers with cheaper electricity that’s better for the environment.

Through other types of programs such as the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant, a residential energy provider is also actively working with other utilities to find more sustainable and renewable resources to use as fuels as well as helping citizens to find energy efficient appliances.  This helps the power company to find new ways to produce the power that they generate while saving the environment from harmful emissions.

Through continuing developments in renewable energy technologies such as solar power, wind turbines, hydropower, and bio-products, power companies continue to use innovation as well as invention as the means to further the efforts of those organizations who are trying to find greener ways to produce power.  As technology advances into new areas, the power companies are there to test the ideas and resources given to them in an effort to offer valuable feedback to Department of Energy concerning what does and what does not work efficiently enough to be considered a replacement fuel.

Home Power Suppliers and Clients Partner to Lower Costs & Save Environment

January 18th, 2012

A home power supplier is composed of residents of the same community that it serves.  For this reason, they want to make sure that everyone in that community is doing their best to conserve energy, whether electricity or natural gas.  To make this happen, energy providers collect all of the power saving tips, ideas, and hints that are working in other neighborhoods across the country and the world and then offer them to their customers.

A primary duty of a home power supplier is to make sure that everyone is aware that saving energy is not only a cost cutting proposition, but it is great for the environment as well.  The less energy that is used is that much less that must be produced on any given day.  This can be done through doing things such as only running the washer when there is a full load of laundry, turning down the thermostat on the hot water tank, washing clothing in cold water only, and changing air filters on both the furnace and the air conditioner when it is recommended to do so. When replacing a dishwasher, dryer, or air conditioning unit always look for energy efficient appliances. Many companies also provide energy audits to help make their customers more energy efficient.

A home power supplier can also be a source of knowledge about all of the questions that a consumer should be asking themselves each day, such as does that computer really need to be on even when it isn’t in use?  Are there lights on throughout the house in rooms that aren’t currently being occupied?  Should the game console in the den be completely unplugged when no one is playing with it?

Basically the home power supplier has the consumer’s best interests in mind, as well as the consumer’s neighborhood and beyond the community.  Never before has saving been such a complete necessity as it is today.  It only makes sense to save energy costs by doing things that also help save the environment.
